The Lake

Lake Higgins, Northern Michigan

By Asha

I am at the edge of the lake. Ribbons of water are dancing on my feet. The particular smell of the breeze makes me feel like all of my stress has gone away. The waves crash down hard- woosh, splash- hurdling over rocks. When my feet touch the sand it feels like my cozy blanket. I can hear laughing, giggling, and squealing. Friends, cousins, and families are getting ready for lunch. I smell meat searing on the grill and the sweetness of watermelon. I hear the crumpling of the bag of chips. My tummy growls like a lion. I run like a cheetah to the picnic table and we eat slowly, enjoying each bite.
